Tuesday  – a.m.

Greeting:  “Let Me See Your Walk”

1.    A student is selected to begin.  She pantomimes her favorite hobby as she walks across the circle to another student.  [Alternate plan for holidays:  pantomime one’s favorite holiday song!]

2.    She greets another advisee, who takes a guess at her favorite hobby (the rest of the class can guess if greeted person can’t get it) and asks to see his “walk.”

3.    He returns the greeting, switches places with the greeter and repeats the process.

Activity:  Pictionary

1.    A student is selected to go first.  Leader gives that student a word.  The student makes a quick drawing that represents the word while the group watches and guesses what the word is.

2.    The first student to correctly guess the word leads the next round.

3.    Decide on a method of guessing before you begin.

4.    Play in teams once the group has mastered playing individually.

Tuesday – p.m.

Greeting:   “Find Your Match”  [supplies needed:  playing cards]

1.   Each advisee finds his or her “match”  (the other red Queen, etc…) and shares any plans or hopes for the holiday break.

2.   Alternate plan, if you want more movement:  have advisees find all the other “two’s” and they can talk in a small group or sequentially.

 Activity:  Popcorn Acknowledgements

1.    Students form a circle, standing.

2.    At random, students acknowledge others for recent activity.

3.    After each acknowledgement, the group may honor the student being acknowledged with a simultaneous clap or a previously decided-upon form of recognition.

Thursday

Greeting:  “Gift Greeting”

1.   Advisees greet each other and extend an imaginary gift to the person they greet.  The gift should demonstrate a level of relationship between the greeter and the student being greeted by being related to an interest the student being greeted has.

2.   For example, “Good Morning, Chuck.  This canteen is for you because I know you like rock climbing.”  Chuck replies:  “Thanks, Isabel.”

Activity:  “Passing the Hoop”

1.    Materials:  hula hoops (see Christin)

2.    Students stand in a circle, holding hands.

3.    A hula hoop is placed between any two students, looped over their clasped hands.

4.    Students pass the hoop around the circle while keeping hands held.

5.    The goal is to pass the hoop around the circle without hands letting go at any point.

6.    Variations:  add as many hoops as you like, going both directions, increasing the challenge as students master earlier versions.  Challenge students to set a speed record.
