Tuesday  – a.m.

Announcements:  Write the question, “Who knows what Labor Day celebrates?  Brainstorm ideas on the white board as you come in.”  Ask each student to think and then write an idea.

Here is one definition in case you’re not too sure yourself:

“According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Labor Day constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. For many families, though, the holiday is a celebration of backyard barbeques, downtown parades, and picnics on the beach. The holiday can have less to do with celebrating the social and economic achievements of the United States, and more to do with celebrating a day off—a three-day weekend to do with what we like.”  (http://www.education.com/magazine/article/Celebrate_Labor_Day/)

Greeting:  Greet by saying your advisory animal, Example- Hello Purple Panda

Sharing:  Get some ideas going about what your advisees see as desirable professions.  The old, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” question!

Activity:  You can play this game according to group safety and cohesion:

Option A:  The least self-disclosing method would be to simply whisper in the actor’s ear a                              profession to act out.

Option B: Have students brainstorm professions, write them on slips of paper and the actor              acts out the profession on the slip of paper chosen.

Option C:  Another option is to combine the Sharing (above) with this game and ask                                        advisees to act out what they would like to do for a living.
